Steps:

Class #1

  1. Create a group of 3.

  2. Each group member will have a distinct role in conducting research and creating the presentation:

    1. A) Research the advantages of stem cell research

    2. B) Research the disadvantages of stem cell research

    3. C) Research the ethical considerations

    4. ALL - Collaborate with the group members to ensure a detailed analysis of each point. Effective communication between all group members  is needed to ensure each argument is countered with the opposing view.

  3. Conduct your research using the given sites and any additional resources you find on the web, videos, books, etc.

    - You may use graphic organizers to help organize your findings and ideas:

    - Make sure to research all of the 5 sections listed in the Tasks page.

Class #2

  4.  Continue research with the guidelines given in the Tasks page.

  5.  Decide on your group's standpoint on the issue and justify. Ideally, each group member should be bringing their area of expertise (advantages/disadvantages/ethics) to the table to discuss/debate on your group's decision on the use of stem cells.

  6.  When your group is finished the final product, individually fill out the assessment for your group's ability to work collaboratively. This will not be a part of your marked grade; it will serve as your own reflection to how well your group was able to work together.

Class #3

  7. Create your 10-12 minute presentation, based on your group's findings and discussions.

Class #4

  8. Sit with your group at a table. Groups will be randomly selected to present.

  9.  Class will be given 2 minutes after each presentation to allow each group to collaborate in providing peer feedback of other group presentations. This will also not be a part of your marked grade; it is only to provide constructive feedback and comments.

Class #5

10.  Continue presentations and peer assessment.
